Sorry I haven't been around as much lately! I've been into a lot of projects since deciding to get my illustration business running full time last week, and gaining a couple of dream commissions. There is so much to do! I'm sure you feel the same way about school.
Now things are getting to be sorted out, so I will have time to post more. I have seen so many cool things lately that I think you will like!
Just a few things I've purchased over the past while. Your sweater post reminded me that I have a fairly similar one now! Pretty much everything here is from ebay and etsy. The dress was 7 dollars!
I went on a serious tights shopping spree the other day - mostly replacing my dear opaque, sweater, and sheer dot tights (RIP!) but also finding some new types for the collection. Tights season is my favorite season! I am so happy that we live in a place where they can be worn almost year round haha.(Sort of!)
Last month my family and I went to a sort of gathering/memorial for my dad's birth mother (who we've never met) and her two sisters. It turned out to be pretty nice, meeting family and all, but I think my favorite part was looking at all of the old photos. There seemed to be hundreds of them, and in each all of the girls are always dressed so nicely, even though they were not rich at all. Haha it seems that they liked taking outfit photos a lot too. We brought a few home, and are getting sent some more soon - but here are a few of my favorites for now. There is one in our living room in which my dad's mum looks just like Audrey Hepburn, its crazy -probably due to the hair and 'Funny Face' style clothing. I love how she seemed to have that sort of silent film quirkiness about her in these ones!
This one is my favorite. I love her bridesmaid's dress and the feather headpieces!
I love these photos of the 'Mad Men' cast by James Minchin III for Rolling Stone. I just bought it today and the little bits of interviews along with the old meets new of the photos and their content are pretty perfect!

This time last year I was just completeing my first digital painting. This time this year I am already bothered by the dullness of adulthood and its making me nostalgic for everything. I practically slept walked home and ate candy for dinner tonight. It served as a bit of a reminder to me as to why living on my own wasn't the greatest, haha.
Time just goes too fast! I never thought I'd say this, but, can we rewind like 5 years?
This is from when I was in highschool. Let's move to Scotland and live in a cool hut! I feel like this is the best cure for such situations.
One of my favorite modern artists is Mercedes Helnwein. I first discovered her last fall in an issue of Lula, and I've been in love with her drawings ever since. So much so actually that I did my career management term project on her career, and how I would like to emulate it in some ways (haha).
I so admire how amazingly she uses graphite. Its a medium that I really want to get back into using more in my own work, as I find I have been resorting to ink more often (which I love, but I need to stay diversified!) She creates characters so beautifully, something else I am obsessed with, and works really hard to bring them to life - through drawings, books she has penned, and even short films. Her work and life seem like a dream.
Henry Darger was a strange and brilliant man. His work, which was perhaps quite fittingly discovered after his death, included a 15,143 page manuscript entitled"The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinnian War Storm". He was definitely a pioneer of "Outsider Art". I love that he created such beautiful collages and watercolour illustrations purely for the creation of his own world on paper, and most likely didn't even consider himself to be an artist. Some would argue that this makes him a true artist, yes?
There is so much that could be said about him, but I think that the trailer for "In the Realms of the Unreal", a documentary on the man and the work describes things best. Have you seen it? It is narrated by Dakota Fanning, haha, and the entire film itself can also be found on youtube.
I do wish that someone would properly publish copies of the story for distribution today, as I would love to read it all!
Inspired by you, I baked some apple muffins with apples from our trees this morning! They were sugar free too.
